OUR CODE OF ETHICS
To advance its aims and objectives, Silvia Buttiglione has adopted the Code of Ethics proposed by the Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association (1982) to maintain the honour and dignity of the profession and to promote understanding, fellowship and cooperation among its members.
It is the duty of all teachers to conduct themselves in accordance with this Code of Ethics.
Here the principals:
1. The teacher shall assist in maintaining the integrity of the profession and should participate in its activities.
2. The teacher shall encourage public respect for, and try to improve the professional aspect of, music teaching.
3. A teacher’s conduct toward another teacher should be characterized by courtesy and good faith.
4. Every teacher is responsible for the well being of every student during the time that such student is in the teacher’s charge.
5. The teacher must be both candid and objective when advising a student as to the student’s capabilities.
6. The teacher shall make no false claims regarding herself or her pupils.
7. It is unethical, either by inducements, innuendoes, insinuations or other acts to proselytize a pupil of another teacher.
8. It is unethical to criticize adversely the work of another teacher.
Teachers should observe the rules of professional conduct set out in this Code of Ethics in the spirit as well as in the letter.
